Money for home modifications
- VA HISA grant (Home Improvements and Structural Alterations) — for veterans with a service-connected or non-service-connected disability. Covers bathroom access work like roll in showers and grab bars. How HISA works and what it typically covers →
- VA SAH / SHA grants — larger grants for severely disabled veterans. Apply through VA.gov.
- Medicaid Home & Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers — many states pay for accessibility modifications so people can stay out of nursing homes. Ask your state Medicaid office or your Area Agency on Aging.
- USDA Section 504 Home Repair program — grants up to $10,000 for homeowners 62+ in rural areas to remove health and safety hazards. USDA Rural Development →
